Body
Currently, the Planning and Zoning Commission has one vacancy for a Regular Member (Position No. 7) due to the resignation of Debbie Screws. Jeffrey Walker was recently moved from an Alternate Member (Alternate No. 1) to a Regular Member (Position No. 6) leaving one vacancy for an Alternate Member (Alternate No. 1). All members serve alternating two-year terms with a limit of three terms.

A new member may be appointed directly to the vacant position for Regular Member (Position No. 7), or an Alternate Member may be moved to the vacant position for Regular Member (Position No. 7).

The Planning and Zoning Commission consists of seven regular members and two alternates appointed by the City Council. The Commission is charged with hearing, recommending, or determining any matter relating to land use issues, including planning, zoning, subdivision plats, changes to the Zoning Ordinance and amendments to and update of the Comprehensive Plan and any other items related to the physical development of the City, as may be specified, or required under the Mesquite Zoning Ordinance, the Charter, or the laws of the State.

Members of the Planning and Zoning Commission also serve on the Capital Improvements Advisory Committee, which advises the City Council on matters pertaining to impact fees, and the Airport Zoning Commission, which is required under State law to address zoning regulations and specific land use issues associated with the Mesquite Metro Airport.
