The Rutherford Park playground, located at 900 Rutherford Drive, was originally constructed around 1997 and has surpassed its useful life. The equipment is deteriorating, and replacement parts are difficult to find. To assist with replacement schedules, the Department maintains a playground assessment summary, ranking playgrounds on age and condition.  Rutherford is currently ranked as the highest priority.  In addition to new playground equipment, the safety fall surface will be upgraded to artificial turf making it more accessible to all abilities.

The selected playground manufacturer, Landscape Structures, is available through Whirlix Design, Inc., a local supplier of playground products and services. The City has previously used this supplier and manufacturer for the playgrounds at KidsQuest, Cross Park, and Travis Williams. They provide a full turnkey service that includes site prep and installation of the equipment and safety surface.

Whirlix Design, Inc., was selected in accordance with the terms of the BuyBoard Purchasing Cooperative Contract No. 679-22.  Installation will be completed by the end of 2024.
