The Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan was adopted by City Council in 2022. The plan solicited public input to develop a list of priority rankings of amenities and spray grounds ranked second out of twenty-three items. The City's first "Spray Zone" was opened in 2023 at Clay Mathis Park. An additional spray pad is planned for Evans Park, located at Hillcrest and Gross Road. This was identified as an ideal location due to the existing infrastructure, available land, proximity to existing playground and access to utilities.
Planned improvements include a spray pad aquatic feature, prefabricated restroom building, security lighting, and a reclaim water system that will utilize the water from the spray pad for irrigation. In order to compress the construction schedule and reduce cost, the spray pad equipment and installation is being contracted directly with the vendor, Whirlix Design, Inc.
Whirlix Design, Inc. specializes in park and recreation equipment and have provided similar aquatic facilities for numerous cities in Texas including recent projects in Hico and Woodway. In accordance with the terms of the Texas BuyBoard Purchasing Cooperative contract, Whirlix Design, Inc. provided a price quote for a custom design spray pad installation. A general contractor will be secured to connect the spray pad to water service, construct the reclaim water system, and other site improvements. Completion is anticipated early summer of 2025.
