The Paschall Park playground, located at 1001 New Market Road, was originally constructed around 1997 and has surpassed its useful life. The equipment is deteriorating, and replacement parts are difficult to find. To assist with replacement scheduling, the Department maintains a playground assessment summary that ranks playgrounds based on age and condition. The Paschall Park equipment is currently the highest priority for replacement. In addition to new playground equipment, the safety fall surface will be upgraded to artificial turf making it more accessible to individuals of all abilities.
Three playground companies submitted proposals to upgrade the equipment. Whirlix Design, Inc., a local supplier of playground products and services, submitted a proposal for Landscape Structures playground equipment. The Whirlix proposal was selected based on the value of the design and equipment. In addition to the upgraded equipment, the design incorporates small climbing hills, a feature popular with users. The City has previously worked with this supplier and manufacturer for the replacement playgrounds at KidsQuest, Cross Park, and Rutherford Park. Whirlix Design provides a full turnkey service that includes site preparation and installation of the equipment and safety surface.
Whirlix Design, Inc., was selected in accordance with the terms of the BuyBoard Purchasing Cooperative Contract No. 679-22. Installation is anticipated to be completed in Summer 2025.
