The Westover Park playground, located at 3700 Forney Road, was originally constructed in the early 2000’s and has surpassed its useful life. The equipment is deteriorating, and replacement parts are difficult to find. The Parks and Recreation Department maintains a playground assessment summary, ranking playgrounds based on age and condition. Westover was ranked in fair condition, indicating the need for replacement. In addition to a new shaded play structure, swings, and spinning features, the safety fall surface will be upgraded to artificial turf, ensuring the area is accessible to all abilities.
The Burke playground was selected through our local supplier, Child’s Play, LLC, due to the unique custom hillscape design featuring rolling hills and integrated climbing elements. The City has worked with this supplier and manufacturer on several previous playground projects because they offer fair pricing and reliable, high-quality equipment. They also provide full turnkey service, including site preparation, installation of the equipment, and installation of the safety surface. The final playground colors were selected by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
Child’s Play, Inc., was selected in accordance with the terms of the BuyBoard Purchasing Cooperative Contract No. 781-25, Vendor No.1501. The playground will be installed in conjunction with other park improvements including the repaving of the failing parking lot, addition of security lighting, new benches and picnic tables. Work is anticipated to be completed by Winter 2026.
