As part of the new Field Services Building construction project, new office furniture for both the new and old Field Services Buildings are needed.  It was necessary to divide this furniture purchase into two phases to ensure that essential furniture for both Solid Waste and myMesquite dispatch staff will arrive in time for their move into the new Field Services Building scheduled for the first two weeks of June 2024.  The Phase Two purchase is for all other non-critical furniture for the new building and all furniture for the old building.  This phasing allows for the contractor to immediately begin work on the remodel of the old Field Services Building after substantial completion of the new building, saving both time and money on the project.

The Phase One furniture purchase consisted of office furniture for 17 Solid Waste offices and main greeting area, one conference room, two offices in the myMesquite dispatch center, and all dispatch console chairs.  The Phase Two purchase includes the remainder of the furniture for the new Field Services Building (new break room and training room), 28 offices in the old Field Services Building, one conference room, and the existing old building break room.

Financial Implications

Funding for the new furniture is through the certificate of obligation bonds for the project.

Recommended/Desired Action
