Travis Williams Athletic Complex, located at 1005 New Market Road, was originally constructed in 1985. The complex is used for adult softball, senior softball, and youth tournament play and is dedicated to fallen City of Mesquite Police Officer Travis Williams. A renovation project was developed to replace the concession/restroom building and update the playground both of which were approved by City Council on November 6, 2023.
In addition to the facility updates, the project includes restoring the ballfield conditions. The approved scope of work consists of resurfacing the clay infield areas, improving the dirt to grass transition, and leveling areas of the outfields. These improvements are necessary to provide a safe and level playing surface and will also create positive drainage reducing the likelihood of rainouts. Due to the specialized nature of ballfield work, these improvements are contracted separately from the general construction to ensure the quality and reduce the cost.
Bid documents were broadcast through the Periscope Holdings electronic bidding system, posted on the City’s website and advertised in the Daily Commercial Record newspaper. Two responses were received and scored using the established Best Value evaluation criteria. Sports Field Solutions, LLC, received the highest score, is well known to the City and has performed these types of improvements to many other fields. The work will be completed in conjunction with the renovation project, which is scheduled for completion in Fall 2024.
Financial Implications
Funding for this project is available through the Mesquite 4B Quality of Life Corporation.

Staff recommends the City Manager be authorized to finalize and execute a contract and any required documents with Sports Field Solutions, LLC.
