Consider appointment of one Regular Member (Position No. 1) and one Alternate Member (Alternate No. 1) to the Landmark Commission for terms to expire December 31, 2027, and one Alternate Member (Alternate No. 2) for a term to expire December 31, 2026.
Body
Currently, the Landmark Commission has three vacancies - One Regular Member (Position No. 1) and two Alternate Members (Alternate Nos. 1 and 2). All members serve alternating two-year terms with no term limits per Ordinance No. 5220, approved by Council on December 15, 2025. This enables members with specific qualifications to continue serving. Prior to approval of this ordinance, members served three two-year terms.
The Landmark Commission consists of five Regular Members and two Alternate Members appointed by the City Council along with two Ex-Officio Members (appointed by Downtown Development Advisory Board and Historic Mesquite, Inc., Board of Directors). The Commission is charged with protecting, promoting and enhancing landmarks and districts of historical, cultural and architectural importance to the City. The Commission makes recommendations on designations of historic landmarks and Historic Preservation Overlay District designations. The Commission also makes determinations regarding certificates of appropriateness.
