The City Council reviews and approves the number of civil service positions/ranks in the Mesquite Fire Department (MFD).
Attached is an ordinance for Council’s consideration regarding the MFD’s authorized positions for Fiscal Year 2025-26. These numbers have been reviewed and confirmed as accurate with the MFD and Budget Department. This increase in staffing is to ensure necessary staffing with the anticipated opening of Fire Station No. 8. The numbers include the addition of one (1) additional Captain and three (3) additional Driver-Engineers, along with a reduction in the number of Lieutenants by one (1). This year’s ordinance also includes a provision authorizing the City Manager to hire five (5) additional Firefighters over the authorized amount as staffing may require.
