Title

Recognize Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Inc. for receiving the 2026 Governor’s Community Achievement Award.

Body

The Governor’s Community Achievement Award (GCAA) program has recognized outstanding communities since 1969, with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) providing landscaping award funding since 1985. This year, TxDOT will award $2 million in landscaping awards to 10 winning communities, with amounts based on population size. The funds are used for landscaping projects along State rights-of-way.

A community’s environmental program is judged on achievements in seven areas:

•                     Community Leadership and Coordination

•                     Public Awareness and Outreach

•                     Environmental Education and Youth Engagement

•                     Beautification and Community Improvement

•                     Litter Prevention and Cleanup

•                     Solid Waste Management

•                     Litter Law and Illegal Dumping Enforcement

The City of Mesquite was one of 10 cities awarded the GCAA in 2026 and will receive $290,000.00 for upcoming highway right-of-way improvements.

Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Inc., received the Governor’s Community Achievement Award in 1990, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2004, 2014 and 2026.
