Body
The City Council reviews and approves the number of civil service positions/ranks in the Mesquite Police Department (MPD). Attached is an ordinance for Council’s consideration regarding the MPD’s authorized positions for Fiscal Year 2025-26. These numbers have been reviewed and confirmed as accurate with the MPD and Budget Department. This year’s ordinance also includes a provision authorizing the City Manager to hire five (5) additional Police Officers over the authorized amount, as staffing may require.

This update reflects the addition of one position to the Police Officer rank. This additional position was requested during the last budget year but was pending the receipt of funds from the Federal Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant.
