Consider appointment of three Regular Members (Position Nos. 1, 3 and 5) and one Alternate Member (Alternate No. 1) to the Landmark Commission for terms to expire December 31, 2027, and one Alternate Member (Alternate No. 2) for a term to expire December 31, 2026.
Body
Currently, the Landmark Commission has four vacancies - Regular Member (Position Nos. 1 and 3) and two Alternate Members (Alternate Nos. 1 and 2). Regular Member Phyllis Prycer (Position No. 5) is eligible for reappointment and has agreed to serve another term, if appointed. All members serve alternating two-year terms with a limit of three terms.
The Landmark Commission consists of five Regular Members and two Alternate Members appointed by the City Council along with two Ex-Officio Members (appointed by Downtown Development Advisory Board and Historic Mesquite, Inc., Board of Directors). The Commission is charged with protecting, promoting and enhancing landmarks and districts of historical, cultural and architectural importance to the City. The Commission makes recommendations on designations of historic landmarks and Historic Preservation Overlay District designations. The Commission also makes determinations regarding certificates of appropriateness.
