Title
Consider appointment of an alternate member to the Regional Transportation Council for a term to expire June 30, 2026.
Body
The Regional Transportation Council (RTC) has 44 members and establishes regional transportation policy and project funding priority for the 16 counties that comprise the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG).
Per the August 2022 Bylaws and Operating Procedures, the City of Mesquite is part of a cluster of cities in Southeastern Dallas County that also includes Seagoville, Balch Springs, and the Town of Sunnyvale. Our City cluster is authorized to have one primary and one alternate member on the RTC. The term of the appointment is for two years, with each term beginning in July of even-numbered years.
Our current representation, as approved in April 2024, consists of Mayor Daniel Alemán, Jr. as the primary member and Councilmember Tandy Boroughs as the alternate member to the RTC. Councilmember Boroughs’ term has expired, and he is no longer serving on the City Council. Upon Mr. Boroughs' completion of his term on the City Council, RTC recommended appointing a representative from another city in the cluster. At this time, staff recommends changing the alternate member designation from Councilmember Boroughs to the Sunnyvale Mayor, Saji George, for the remainder of the current term, which expires on June 30, 2026.
A letter was sent to the cities included in the cluster to consider the appointment on March 30, 2026.
Recommended/Desired Action
Staff recommends appointing Town of Sunnyvale Mayor Saji George as an alternate member to the RTC.
