Bid No. 2024-014, Mesquite Heritage Trail Phase II (Gross Road to Towne Centre Drive), was approved by City Council on March 4, 2024, in the amount of $6,845,385.80. Change Order No. 1 in the amount of $1,424.00 was approved on February 11, 2025, to decrease temporary special shoring and add a T-Wall form liner and grate inlets.
Change Order No. 2 in the amount of $102,760.00 is needed to remove additional trees due to field conditions and address graffiti vandalism, bringing the total contract amount to $6,949,569.80.
The additional tree removal quantity was largely based on the delay of the construction contract. The original tree inventory was done in 2017 for this project. The design was completed, and the tree removal was quantified based on the 2017 tree inventory. While awaiting availability of construction funding, trees that were small diameter and were considered incidental to the clearing bid item grew substantially in trunk diameter that necessitated an increase in the tree removal quantity.
The graffiti vandalism occurred on the retaining walls constructed by this project generally in the area between Jane Street and the AMC Theater.
Financial Implications
Funding for this change order is allocated with Certificate of Obligation funds and TIRZ No. 2.
Recommended/Desired Action
Staff recommends the City Manager be authorized to execute Change Order No. 2 to Bid No. 2024-014, Mesquite Heritage Trail Phase II (Gross Road to Towne Centre Drive).
