An ordinance amending Chapter 9 of the City Code regarding the location of school zones by extending existing school zones for Thompson Elementary School along Edwards Church Road and Helen Lane.
Body
The purpose of a school zone is to allow children to safely cross a street at a marked crossing. Staff proposes adding an extension to the existing school zones located on Edwards Church Road and Helen Drive, for Thompson Elementary School. Traffic studies by staff indicated a number of students crossing outside the existing school zones and the proposed extension of school zones would include the locations of crossings.
Financial Implications
Funding for signs and markings for the school zone extensions is included in the Traffic Engineering’s operations budget.
Recommendations/desired action
Staff recommends approval of the ordinance.
