The Parkwood Park playground, located on Parkwood Trail, was originally constructed around 1999 and has surpassed its useful life. The equipment is deteriorating, and replacement parts are difficult to find. Recently the playground was vandalized, and a number of the features were damaged beyond repair. The price quote for the required repairs is $28,000.00. The Department maintains a playground assessment summary, ranking playgrounds based on age and condition.  Parkwood was ranked as a high priority; however, the vandalism has accelerated the urgency to replace it.  In addition to new playground equipment, the safety fall surface will be upgraded to artificial turf, making it more accessible to all abilities.

The Burke playground equipment was selected through local supplier, Child’s Play, Inc. The City has previously used this supplier and manufacturer for several playgrounds. They provide a full turnkey service, including site preparation and installation of the equipment and safety surface.

Child’s Play, Inc., was selected in accordance with the terms of the BuyBoard Purchasing Cooperative Contract No. 679-22.  Installation is anticipated to be completed by Summer 2025.
