Title

Consider appointment of principal and alternate members to the Regional Transportation Council for terms to expire June 30, 2026.

Body

The Regional Transportation Council (RTC) has 44 members and establishes regional transportation policy and project funding priority for the 16 counties that comprise the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG).

Per the August 2022 Bylaws and Operating Procedures, the City of Mesquite is in a cluster of cities that also includes the cities of Seagoville and Balch Springs and the Town of Sunnyvale. Our city cluster is authorized one primary and one alternate member to the RTC. The term of the appointment is for two years with each term beginning in July of even numbered years.

On April 22, 2024, a letter was sent to the three other municipalities in our cluster seeking their concurrence in the appointment of Mayor Daniel Alemán, Jr. and Councilmember Tandy Boroughs as the primary and alternate members respectively to the RTC. One response in support was received on behalf of Mayor Sebastian with the City of Seagoville and no other responses were received.

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends appointing Mayor Daniel Alemán, Jr. and Councilmember Tandy Boroughs as the primary and alternate members, respectively to the RTC.
