With its unique all-wood design and convenient location, the KidsQuest playground at DeBusk Park has been one of the City’s most popular and well-used playgrounds since 1994. The estimated lifespan of the structure, with proper care and maintenance, was 25 years. That projection has been accurate, as the playground is now showing signs of deterioration and several areas have been closed due to safety hazards. The next generation of KidsQuest has been designed as an all-inclusive playground with activities for all ages and abilities.
This renovation project includes three separate areas: the playground, the pavilion and the addition of a new parking lot. Separate contracts are being used, one for the purchase of the playground equipment and the other for the site construction work.
Bid documents were broadcast to vendors through the BidSync electronic bidding system, posted on the City’s website and an Advertisement for Bid notice was published in the Daily Commercial record newspaper. Three bid responses were received. Proposals were evaluated and scored using the Best Value criteria, with ratings for quality, design and playability. Whirlix Design, LLC, received the most points.
The current project timeline estimates construction starting in August with completion in late October of 2019.
