Title

Authorize the City Manager to finalize and execute Change Order Nos. 1 and 2 to Bid No. 2023-040, Construction Manager-at-Risk Services for the Construction of the Mesquite Animal Shelter and Adoption Center Addition, with Falkenberg Construction Company, Inc., for additional services required in the total amount of $249,643.44.

 

Body

The City Council approved Bid No. 2023-040, Construction Manager-at-Risk Services for the Construction of the Mesquite Animal Shelter and Adoption Center Addition, with Falkenberg Construction Company, Inc., on August 21, 2023, in the amount of $3,374,855.12.

 

Change Order No. 1 is in the amount of $165,810.24 and is required to perform back-office upgrades not included in the original scope of the contract.  These upgrades include new flooring for all restrooms and back offices, painting throughout the office area and corridors of the kennel spaces, and new signage for the back-office areas.  An additional 17 workdays will be added to this contract for the additional work. 

 

Change Order No. 2 is in the amount of $83,833.20 and is required for the rerouting of the sanitary sewer for the new addition.  To create the required slope for the sanitary sewer line, a new manhole must be installed across Jane Street for the connection of the new sanitary sewer line. 

 

The revised contract amount is $3,624,498.56 (Total of original contract - $3,374,855.12 + Change Order Nos. 1 and 2 - $249,643.44).

 

Financial Implications

The project is budgeted from the City’s Capital Improvement Project (CIP) and American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.

 

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends the City Manager be authorized to finalize and execute Change Order Nos. 1 and 2 to Bid No. 2023-040, Construction Manager-at-Risk Services for the Construction of the Mesquite Animal Shelter and Adoption Center Addition.
