Title
A resolution casting a vote in the runoff election for the fourth member of the Board of Directors of the Dallas Central Appraisal District.
Body
Pursuant to the provisions of the Texas Property Tax Code, Section 6.03, the City of Mesquite is entitled to participate in an election for the purpose of electing the fourth member (suburban cities’ representative) to the Board of Directors of the Dallas Central Appraisal District (DCAD). The DCAD Board of Directors are elected and/or appointed in odd-numbered years in the following manner:
• One member appointed by the City of Dallas,
• One member appointed by the Dallas Independent School District
• One member appointed by the Dallas County Commissioners Court,
• One member elected from candidates submitted by each incorporated city and town except for the City of Dallas, and
• One member elected from candidates submitted by each of the independent school districts except for the Dallas Independent School District and the Dallas County Community College District.
Since there was no candidate receiving a majority of the votes in December’s election, a runoff election is required for the two top vote getters. The City Council elected Michael Hurtt by official ballot resolution in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, and the 2017 election. The deadline for the Chief Appraiser to receive votes is January 31, 2020.
Recommended/Desired Action
Staff recommends approval of the resolution electing Michael Hurtt.
