Conduct a public hearing to gather input from residents on the proposed changes regarding an update to the Water Conservation Plan and Water Resource and Emergency Management Plan as required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Texas Water Development Board.

In conjunction with the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) and all Member Cities, Mesquite is updating the existing Water Conservation Plan and Water Resource and Emergency Management Plan with standardized drought response designations and water conservation measures designed to enhance the sustainability of the region’s water resources. The purpose of the public hearing is to gather input from residents on the proposed changes.
Proposed changes include:
• Water Conservation Plan
o 2.01 Description of the Service Area - include the Markout Water System that was taken over by the City of Mesquite in August of 2022
o 2.02 Water Utility Profile - include the purchase of treated water from the City of Forney
o 4.01 Metering Program - include the replacement of all 43,000+ meters with an AMI system and Neptune Mach 10 R900i Ultrasonic meters
• Water Resource and Emergency Management Plan - No Changes
At the May 6, 2024, City Council meeting, staff will present an ordinance for consideration adopting the revised Water Conservation Plan and Water Resource and Emergency Management Plan.
