In accordance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1851 and the Mesquite Fire Department’s (MFD) cancer prevention program, all firefighting protective gear must receive advanced cleaning at least every six months, and it must undergo advanced inspection once per year. While all Mesquite fire stations are equipped with a washer/extractor for advanced cleaning on-site, advanced inspection and any necessary repairs must be completed by a licensed provider. Advanced cleaning is required prior to this inspection in order to reduce the provider’s exposure to carcinogens that may be present on soiled firefighting gear. This bid is for annual cleaning, inspection and repair of the MFD’s supply of firefighting protective gear.
Gear Wash is a sister company of Fire-Dex LLC and is one of the largest independent service providers of personal protective equipment and maintenance.
Financial Implications
Funding for the $52,019.40 increase in advanced cleaning services is available in the Amended Fiscal Year 2025-26 Fire Operations Budget and is also included in next year's proposed budget.
