A resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a Constitutional Amendment and Joint Election Contract for Joint Election Services with the Elections Administrator of Kaufman County in connection with the Special and General Election to be held November 4, 2025.

 

Body

This contract with Kaufman County on behalf of the Kaufman County Elections Administrator will provide election services to Mesquite registered voters, currently 851, who reside in Kaufman County for the General Election for the purpose of electing a Mayor and Councilmember for Place 6 and a Special Election for the purpose of submitting a proposed tax rate that exceeds the voter-approval tax rate for the 2025 tax year to be held November 4, 2025.

 

Political subdivisions holding an election on the November uniform election date are required to use county election precincts and polling places. Kaufman County Elections Department utilizes Countywide Vote Centers.  City of Mesquite residents, who are registered voters in Kaufman County, may vote at any Early Voting or Election Day Vote Center. 

 

The contract provides for:

 

  • Participation by eight entities and Kaufman County for Constitutional Amendments.
  • Responsibilities of the Kaufman County Elections Administrator and participating entities.
  • Estimated election cost for the City of Mesquite, which is $2,117.50.
  • Hours and locations for Early Voting (approximately five locations countywide).
  • Location of Election Day Voting (approximately 23 locations countywide).

 

Financial Implications

Election costs are budgeted as Professional Services in the City Secretary Department’s budget.

 

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends approval of the resolution.
