VertexOne, branded for customers as WaterSmart, is an online service provided to assist City of Mesquite utility billing account holders in understanding and managing water use through access to their water meter data, customizable messaging and alerts, and personalized conservation tips. More than 6,000 residents are registered users on the WaterSmart portal. Customer engagement continues to increase with 1,150 unique visitors to the customer portal and 225 new user accounts activated in the past 90 days. The WaterSmart platform is also regularly utilized by Utility Billing staff to make electronic notifications to account holders, including monthly delinquent bill reminders.
VertexOne is the sole distributor for this software platform. Year one cost for the renewal is $78,624.00, or $1.76 per water meter. This represents a three percent increase over current per-meter cost. Annual per-meter cost increases an average of three percent in each subsequent year of the agreement to $1.82 in year two, $1.87 in year three, $1.93 in year four, and $1.98 in year five.
Financial Implications
Funding will be provided annually through the Water and Sewer Operating Fund.
