Title

A resolution supporting passage of the Railway Safety Act of 2023 (S.576/H.R.1674) to support America’s first responders and keep trains moving safely in communities.

Body

The Federal Railway Safety Act (S.576/H.R.1674) is proposed to help ensure additional safety measures and adequate funding is available for recovery from a railway accident. The Railway Safety Act (S. 576) would create a fund for the Department of Transportation (DOT) to respond to certain rail carrier and motor carrier accidents involving hazardous materials. The bill would help to develop new safety systems and to make grants to railroads for research, development, and installation of train defect detectors and other safety features for trains and railroads. The City of Mesquite has many miles of railway and would support legislation that improves the safety of the public adjacent to those railways.
