A resolution endorsing and accepting the 2025-2026 Comprehensive Safety Grant (the “Grant”) for the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (the “STEP Program”), authorizing and ratifying the filing of the application for the Grant, approving the contribution of City funds in the amount of $14,926.68, designating the City Manager as the official representative of the City in connection with the Grant, ratifying the City Manager’s execution of the grant agreement and authorizing the City Manager to take all actions and execute all documents with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in connection with such Grant and STEP Program.

 

Body

The City of Mesquite and Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) have been sharing funding of a Comprehensive Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) to promote highway safety. The proposed grant will provide funding to reduce the number of motor vehicle related crashes, fatalities, and serious injuries in Texas.

 

The Traffic Safety Grant is a single-year Comprehensive Safety Grant to cover Fiscal Year (FY) 2025-2026. The State will participate in the amount of $50,771.04 to be supplemented by City funds in the amount of $14,926.68.

 

Financial Implications

Funds are available in the FY 2025-26 budget.

 

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends approval of the resolution.
