Title

Consider an ordinance levying the ad valorem taxes for tax year 2026 (Fiscal Year 2026-27) at a rate of $0.654018 per $100 assessed valuation.

Body

The proposed tax rate was set by record vote at the August 17, 2026, City Council meeting, and the required statutory notice was published in the Daily Commercial Record on August 27, 2026.

Since the proposed tax rate is not greater than the no-new-revenue tax rate or the voter-approval tax rate, no public hearing is required; however, Council should request comments from anyone in attendance wishing to express support or opposition to the proposed tax rate prior to casting their vote to adopt the tax rate. The proposed ordinance sets the tax rate at the voter-approval tax rate of $0.654018 per $100 of assessed valuation.

Recommended/Desired Action

Following the public meeting, staff recommends approval of the ordinance. No motion language is required by State law; however, Council may wish to state for public record that the proposed tax rate is $0.050674 (-7.19%) less than the current tax rate of $0.704692.
