Authorize the City Manager to execute a contract with the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce for the purpose of providing economic development services.

Since 2008, the City has contracted with the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce to provide assistance with the community’s economic development efforts and support the Convention and Visitors Bureau by hosting space for a visitor’s center. Updates to the agreement in subsequent years broadened the scope of the agreement to increase the Chamber’s role.
During the 2016-17 Budget process, the City Council directed staff to revise the existing agreement to identify more specific roles the Chamber would serve in assistance to the City and begin to reduce the overall amount of the contract over a period of time.
The new contract began on January 1, 2017, and this will be the second renewal year as identified in the contract. The overall payment to the Chamber will be reduced by $10,000 during this contract term.
Financial Implications
The services are funded through the General Fund in the amount of $60,000.
