A resolution authorizing the exchange of property with the Mesquite Independent School District (MISD) for the future construction of a public school on approximately 15 acres of City-owned property located at 1800 McKenzie Road, Mesquite, Texas, in exchange for approximately 22 acres of MISD property located at or about 992599 McKenzie Road, Mesquite, Texas, and authorizing the City Manager to execute the exchange agreement with MISD and all documents necessary to consummate the transactions contemplated in the exchange agreement.

 

Body

The City of Mesquite and MISD are proposing a mutual property exchange to support long-term community growth and planning. The City will convey a 15-acre parcel to the District, which has been identified as a site for the construction of a future public-school facility. In exchange, the City will receive a 22-acre parcel currently owned by the District. While the City does not have immediate development plans for the incoming District parcel, acquisition of this property strategically sets up the City for future growth and expansion of parks and recreation services.

 

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends approval of the resolution.
