Title

A resolution authorizing the City Manager to excute an application to the U.S. Department of Energy for the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Voucher Rebate Program for reimbursement in the sum of $182,880.00 for the purchase and installation of an electric vehicle charging station and the purchase of three electric vehicles and to take such other actions as may be necessary to obtain and administer the grant and ratifying the prior acts of the City Manager.

Body

The U.S. Department of Energy awarded the City of Mesquite funding as part of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program, a formula-based allocation.  The City of Mesquite was awarded $182,880.00 to further a legacy of stewardship and become a more sustainable community.  Staff proposes to expand the City’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure to provide access to additional charging locations for residents.  The proposed EV charging stations will be installed within a location determined as a Community Development Block Grant area.

The proposed location for the EV Chargers will be at the Housing & Community Services Building, 1616 North Galloway Avenue.

Staff is also proposing to acquire three electric vehicles to replace three fleet vehicles that have met the end of their useful life.  The electric vehicles will be used by various departments to determine if electric vehicles are more efficient than gasoline vehicles and assess the effectiveness of adding vehicles to the fleet.  The following departments will use the three electric vehicles for daily field activities:

•                     Rental Inspections

•                     Environmental Code

•                     Parks & Recreation

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends approval of the resolution.
