Title

Authorize the City Manager to execute a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) for the City of Mesquite Police Department’s participation in the DoD SkillBridge Program.

 

Body

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishes and defines a partnership between the City of Mesquite Police Department and U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).  The purpose of the MOU is to establish a joint partnership for veteran’s reentering the civilian workforce. The SkillBridge Program allows recruitment of potential law enforcement candidates still serving in the U.S. Department of Defense to enter an internship with the City of Mesquite Police Department, prior to separation, for potential hiring by the Mesquite Police Department after successful completion of the internship and hiring process. There is no cost to the City of Mesquite.

 

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends the City Manager be authorized to execute a MOU with the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness of the U.S. Department of Defense.
