This purchase of fire protective bunker gear will be issued to members of the Mesquite Fire Department (MFD), as indicated by MFD's standard operating procedures and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1851.  This practice provides each firefighter with two sets of fire protective clothing, in accordance with the Department’s cancer prevention initiative.

 

The MFD anticipates purchasing additional fire protective clothing for new recruits - as well as replacement of out-of-date or damaged gear - totaling $201,920.46.  The term of the contract is for a one-year period, with four additional one-year renewal options.

 

Financial Implications

The purchase of firefighter protective clothing was approved in the FY2024-25 Operating Budget. 

 

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends the City Manager be authorized to finalize and execute a contract with Municipal Emergency Services, Inc.
