Body

The fabric windscreen structure behind the upper level activity pool at City Lake Aquatic Center is approximately 18 years old and has reached the end of its useful life. Staff is proposing to replace the structure with a new waterfall feature that provides the necessary protection but also enhances the patron’s pool experience.  A 12-foot high wall of manmade rock formations will span the entire 76-foot length at the rear of the pool creating a concave backdrop. A low volume waterfall will project into the pool from a rock ledge creating a shaded grotto behind the curtain of water. This new feature will provide additional shade as well as an interactive water feature.

A two-step request for qualifications/proposal solicitation process was conducted in accordance with state purchasing requirements for design-build contracts. Two bids were received and RicoRock, Inc., was identified as the preferred respondent. The RicoRock, Inc., team has extensive experience designing and constructing similar water features for hotels, resorts and commercial facilities.

This contract will provide engineering and construction services for an estimated project amount of $214,500.00. Overage will be funded from Pool Maintenance account. Construction is scheduled to begin mid-February with completion in mid-May, prior to the start of the 2017 summer pool season.

Financial Implications

Funding will be provided by the Mesquite Quality of Life Corporation.
