The attached resolution authorizes the Mayor to execute an Election Services Contract and Joint Election Services Agreement with the Dallas County Elections Department in connection with the annual City election to be held May 6, 2017. The contract provides for:
• Participation by 40 entities.
• Responsibilities of the Dallas County Elections Administrator and participating entities.
• Estimated election cost to be deposited with the Dallas County Treasurer.
• Mesquite’s estimated cost for the 2017 Joint Election is $27,165.85, with Mesquite Independent School District’s (MISD) participation. However, since MISD has no contested races and will be withdrawing from the election, the City will be responsible for a larger share of the overall cost of the election.
• Hours and locations for early voting (approximately 51 locations countywide; one location is in Mesquite at Lakeside Activity Center, 101 Holley Park Drive).
• Conduct any runoff elections under the terms of the agreement.
Financial Implications
Election costs are budgeted as Professional Services in the City Secretary Department’s
FY2016-2017 budget.
