Title

Conduct a public hearing and consider an ordinance for a request submitted by Days Inn, located at 140 Commerce Way, to allow truck parking for hotel guests.

(Abutting property owners were notified as required by City Code Section 9-169.  No responses have been received from those property owners.)

Body

Truck parking at hotels is prohibited in Mesquite.  However, under City Code Section 9-169, the City Council may approve truck parking at hotels when the trucks belong to registered guests at the hotel.  The Council may include conditions to any approval of truck parking to include a limit regarding the number of trucks.

Days Inn, located at 140 Commerce Way, has requested truck parking for their hotel guests.  They are proposing a maximum of six spaces to be located north of the hotel building.  Adjacent to the north of the Days Inn property is a lot owned by Motel 6 that has parking for 40 trucks.  All of the property owned by Days Inn is zoned Industrial.  The addition of six truck parking spaces at this location will have minimal impact due to the existing adjacent truck parking.  This will be a new parking area and have no impact on the existing hotel’s passenger vehicle parking.

Recommended/Desired Action

Following the public hearing, Staff recommends approval of the proposed ordinance.
