A resolution stating its opposition to Senate Bill 2 and any other legislation imposing revenue caps on local government inhibiting the City’s ability to provide basic public services.
Body
Senate Bill 2 (Bettencourt) proposes to cap the amount of property tax revenue Texas cities can collect each year. If enacted, it will replace the current eight percent “rollback rate” with a hard cap of four percent and require mandatory elections on any increase over four percent. This legislation will adversely affect the City’s ability to fund public safety and basic municipal services.
Recommended/Desired Action
Staff recommends approval of the resolution.
