Consider scheduling a special City Council meeting to canvass the returns for the May 6, 2017, General Election.
Body
Section 67.003 of the Texas Election Code requires that the canvass of an election be conducted not earlier than the eighth day (Sunday, May 14) or later than the eleventh day (Wednesday, May 17) after Election Day. This agenda item will allow the City Council to call a special City Council meeting for Wednesday, May 17, 2017, to canvass the returns of the May 6, 2017, General Election. By holding the special meeting on May 17, it will allow the Dallas County Elections Department sufficient time to complete its review of any provisional ballots and ballots received from military personnel or other citizens currently outside of the United States.

Staff recommends the City Council call a special meeting to canvass the results of the May 6, 2017, General Election on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at 9:00 a.m.
