Title

Authorize the City Manager to execute a Child Care Local Match Contribution Agreement with the Texas Workforce Commission for Workforce Solutions of Greater Dallas to maximize federal funding.

Body

Workforce Solutions of Greater Dallas administers a childcare subsidy program in Dallas County and is required to secure local match partners in order to maximize federal funding. Workforce Solutions has requested that the City assist in meeting their match requirement by providing information from the recreation afterschool program (RASP). There is no exchange of funds and the only requirement is quarterly certification of RASP expenditures from October 1, 2016, through September 30, 2017.

Workforce Solutions serves over 9,700 children annually and approximately 1,027 benefit from these services in Mesquite. In the past fiscal year, 51 licensed childcare providers in Mesquite received $4,065,745.00 in funding.

By participating in the childcare match effort, the City of Mesquite is alongside the City of Dallas as the only municipalities contributing more direct care dollars for low-income kids in Dallas County than other municipalities.

Recommended/Desired Action

Authorize the City Manager to execute the agreement.
