Title

A resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute and approve the Dallas County Capital Improvement Program Funding Agreement for the design and construction of the Military Parkway Trail connecting downtown Mesquite to the Mesquite Championship Rodeo.

Body

This project will connect downtown Mesquite to the Mesquite Championship Rodeo. It includes a 10-foot wide community trail beginning at Carmack Street and ending at Gateway Boulevard.  From Gateway Boulevard, the trail becomes a part of the Mesquite Heritage Trail and widens to a 12-foot trail until it terminates at Rodeo Center Boulevard.  The trail will connect to the Military Parkway Trail from Rodeo Center Boulevard to Sam Houston Road that is starting construction.  The 10-foot-wide and 12-foot-wide trails are in accordance to the Trails Master Plan. The project will also include constructing sidewalks along Military Parkway from Carmack Street to South Galloway Avenue to provide a continuous path all the way from South Galloway Avenue to the Mesquite Championship Rodeo.

Financial Implications

The project was selected in the Dallas County 6th Major Capital Improvement Program (MCIP) call for projects and will receive 50 percent of the project costs from Dallas County. The County will be completing the design on the project and will be managing the construction. The total project cost is estimated to be $2,280,000 with the City responsible for $1,140,000. Design will begin upon execution of the funding agreement and construction is expected to begin in 2019.
