Title

A resolution endorsing and accepting the 2017-2018 Speed Safety Grant for the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (the “STEP” Program); approving the contribution of City funds in the amount of $12,714.93 and authorizing the City Manager to execute the necessary documents with the Texas Department of Transportation in connection with such grant and STEP Program.

 

Body

The City of Mesquite and Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) have been sharing funding of a Speed Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) to promote highway safety. The proposed grant will provide funding to hire off-duty officers on an overtime basis to detect and apprehend speed limit offenders on City highways.

 

The Traffic Safety Grant is a single-year Speed Safety Grant to cover fiscal year 2017-2018. The State will participate in the amount of $38,144.78 to be supplemented by City funds in the amount of $12,714.93. City funds are included in the 2017-18 budget.

 

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends approval of the resolution.
