Title
A resolution directing that staff give written notice of the City’s intent to annex certain property in its extraterritorial jurisdiction and draft a service plan for such area.
Body
The City of Mesquite has an extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) of approximately 19 square miles. Much of it is vacant or sparsely developed and eligible for annexation under an expedited process that is available to Mesquite until December 1, 2017. During the meeting, staff will present several area options for annexation. The City Council may consider and take action to initiate annexation of one or more of the areas presented.
To initiate annexation, the City Council must adopt the proposed resolution, which will include a graphic description of the area or areas to be annexed. If adopted, the proposed resolution directs staff to notify property owners and interested parties as provided by law, and develop a service plan for providing municipal services to new territory once annexation is complete.
Recommended/Desired Action
Staff recommends adoption of the proposed resolution, with the Exhibit “A” to be fully identified during the meeting.
