Title

An ordinance amending Chapter 9 of the City Code regulating the parking of commercial vehicles on private property.

Body

Since 1999, Section 9-168 has prohibited the parking of commercial vehicles (i.e., large trucks) on private property in residential zoning districts.  Unauthorized parking in non-residential districts was covered in a related section that, with the passage of time, proved to be problematic.  The proposed amendment expands the scope of Section 9-168 to prohibit parking of commercial vehicles on nonresidential property in a clear, unambiguous way.

The proposed ordinance includes defenses to prosecution for delivery trucks, authorized accessory uses, and trucks rendering emergency and public services.

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends approval of the proposed ordinance.
