Title

Conduct a public hearing and consider an ordinance for Zoning Text Amendment No. 2018-01 amending Section 3-200, Use Regulations; Section 3-300, Development Standards; Section 3-500, Supplementary Use Regulations; and Section 6-102, Definitions; all pertaining to new and revised regulations for Amusement and Recreation Services including ballrooms and event centers.

(The Planning and Zoning Commission recommends denial of the zoning text amendment.)

Body

On November 27, 2017, the Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend denial of Zoning Text Amendment No. 2018-01. A motion to approve failed by a vote of three in favor and four in opposition.

Event centers and reception halls are classified in the Zoning Ordinance as Ballrooms, requiring a Conditional Use Permit in certain non-residential zoning districts. In addition, they must be a minimum of 500 feet from any residential zoning district. However, there is no definition nor are there any other regulations specific to this use. Staff proposes amendments that would create definitions and a number of use requirements to better regulate these uses.

Recommended/Desired Action

After the public hearing, staff recommends approval of the application.
