A remount is a complete refurbishing of the patient compartment (module) of the ambulance. The module is removed from the old chassis and given a thorough cleaning. Worn and damaged interior and exterior items are replaced or repaired. Major items replaced include the interior lighting and all doors. The air conditioner and the exterior emergency lighting system will be replaced. The patient care area will get major safety upgrades including six-point belt harnesses and head padding for the seating areas. This remount will also repair and restripe the exterior of the ambulance.  Once all repairs are completed, the module is reattached to a new chassis. This new chassis, a Ford F-350 Diesel, has a Liquid Spring suspension system that will greatly increase the stability and handling of the ambulance.

One ambulance is scheduled for remount during the 2017-18 budget year. This unit will upgrade the ambulance responding from Fire Station 4. The City Council approved $170,000.00 in the 2017-18 budget for the remount of Unit 1200057. The remaining funding in this project will be used to purchase a new automatic patient loading system and compatible cot. This patient load system is being installed on all of Mesquite’s front line ambulances. These load systems greatly enhance the safety of the fire department members in the delivery of care to Mesquite’s citizens and visitors.
