The Mesquite AMBUCS will present a donation in the amount of $2,000 to kick-off the 2018 Spread the Love campaign in association with National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day.
The Spread the Love campaign raises funds, as well as peanut butter and jelly, to help feed children during the summer who live in food insecure homes. These children receive free or reduced school lunches during the school year. The donations allow the children to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on their own, without the need to operate an appliance, while their parents are away at work. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches have been identified by local food pantries as a safe, nutritious meal children can make on their own.
All donations of financial support, as well as peanut butter and jelly, to the Spread the Love campaign are shared equally with Sharing Life Community Outreach and Mesquite Social Services for redistribution to families in the Mesquite community.
The National Peanut Butter Board states that a 15 oz. jar of peanut butter can make 15 sandwiches. Using an average retail cost of $2.00 per 16 oz. jar, the AMBUCS donation of $2,000 will help make 15,000 sandwiches for the Spread the Love campaign.
