Title

Bid No. 2018-088 - Installation of Extractors in Fire Stations 2, 5, 6 and 7.

(Authorize the City Manager to finalize and execute the required documents with Concord Commercial Services through Bid No. 2018-037, Annual Facility Maintenance, Time and Material, Repair and Remodeling Contract, in the amount of $35,387.50 and Aadvantage Laundry Systems, through BuyBoard Contract No. 518-16, in the amount of $46,600.92, for a total amount of $81,988.42.)

Body

Studies conducted over the last 10 years recognize and emphasize increased cancer risks associated with continued wearing of dirty turnout gear. This risk to firefighters occurs through skin contact and absorption of carcinogenic materials that collect and remain on their gear following exposure to products of combustion. Prompt in-house cleaning of contaminated bunker gear following each exposure will reduce the firefighters’ exposure to carcinogens.

Staff recommends purchasing and installing bunker gear washer extractors for Fire Stations 2, 5, 6 and 7. The installation will require building modifications in each of the Stations. Concord Commercial Services will perform the building modifications through the Time and Materials Bid No. 2018-037. The equipment will be purchased from and installed by Aadvantage Laundry Systems through BuyBoard Contract No. 518-16.

Financial Implications

Funding for this project is available through unreserved Certificate of Obligation bonds.

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends award to Concord Commercial Services and Aadvantage Laundry Systems and authorize the City Manager to execute the required documents.
