Authorize the City Manager to finalize and execute a contract with Freese and Nichols in the amount of $222,500.00 for preparation of a new Mesquite Comprehensive Plan.

This contract will provide for the development of a new city-wide Comprehensive Plan for Mesquite. The scope of the project includes numerous meetings and workshops with staff, stakeholders, citizens, the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council. The Plan will include a community analysis, future land use plan, population projections, assessments of neighborhoods, transportation, design and character, public health and safety and guidelines for implementation.
The intent of the Plan is to establish policies for appointed and elected officials to use to assist in future decisions and to provide information and guidance to staff, the development community and citizens regarding the future of Mesquite.
Financial Implications
The City Council approved $225,000.00 for this project in the Fiscal Year 2018 budget. The proposed contract for the project is $222,500.00.
Recommended/Desired Action
Staff recommends the City Manager be authorized to finalize and execute a contract with Freese and Nichols.
