Certain parts of construction equipment and diesel trucks can weigh hundreds of pounds (such as hydraulic cylinders, large diesel engine parts, axles, etc.). Presently, mechanics are using a variety of methods to lift these parts that are inefficient and raise safety concerns. The purchase of a Shop Crane will aid in safe and efficient lifting of heavy parts and equipment during repair and service of construction equipment and heavy trucks.

Bid documents were broadcast to vendors through the BidSync electronic bidding system, posted on the City’s website and an Advertisement for Bid notice was published in the Daily Commercial Record newspaper. HUB vendors and purchasing co-ops were unsuccessfully searched in an attempt to find a vendor willing to bid on the crane project. Staff solicited a sealed bid and CCE, Inc., was the lowest bidder meeting specifications. The apparent low bid of Begus Online Inc., was deemed non-responsive to the crane specifications.

Financial Implications

Funds are available in the Fiscal Year 2018-19 Budget.

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends award to CCE, Inc.
