Staff recommends the purchase of one ladder truck equipped with a fully enclosed cab, a 1,500-gallon per minute (GPM) pump, a 300-gallon water tank and a 105-foot rear mount ladder. Spartan Emergency Response Vehicles (Spartan ERV) is the manufacturer and is represented by Metro Fire Apparatus Specialists, Inc., of Houston, Texas.
The Fire Department’s current fleet includes 10 pumpers manufactured by Crimson Fire, known as Spartan ERV since 2012. The current ladder truck is manufactured by Smeal Fire Apparatus, which was acquired by Spartan ERV in 2017. The Fire Department’s Apparatus Committee recommends the purchase of Spartan ERV based on its performance.
Unit 9700041, purchased in 1997, is scheduled for replacement in compliance with the Fire Department’s Apparatus Replacement Program.
Financial Implications
The purchase of the ladder truck was approved in the Fiscal Year 2018-19 4B budget. A portion of the balance of the budgeted amount will be used for loose equipment, radios and mount. The Mobile Data Computer and tools are not included in this bid.
