Title

A.                     Conduct a public hearing to receive and discuss public input and comments on redistricting, the proposed illustrative redistricting plan and alternate plan(s).

 

B.                     Consider an ordinance approving the City’s six single-member Council districts and establishing new City Council boundary lines for City Council elections in Mesquite.

 

Body

A public hearing will be held to allow public input regarding the redistricting and proposed illustrative plan. Public meetings for citizen input were also held Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at Rutherford Senior Center and Thursday, October 18, 2018, at Florence Recreation Center. Public hearings were also held at the November 5, 2018, and November 19, 2018, City Council meetings. This will be the last public hearing for the redistricting process.

 

After the public hearing, the City Council may consider approving an ordinance establishing new City Council boundary lines.

 

If the Council chooses not to act on this ordinance at this meeting, it will be placed on the December 17, 2018, agenda. By City Charter, the single-member district boundaries must be established by December 31, 2018.

 

Recommended/Desired Action

Staff recommends approval of the ordinance.
